Sani day 1..

It was a very nice trip with no cancelations, no delays, even the weather was cooperative. It's funny that the route for the airline for Sanikiluaq is out of Winnipeg when north from Toronto or Ottawa would be more direct. But whatever, I know the three northern airlines split the market and thats how it worked out. Calm Air still gives a meal on the plane- thats exciting! So! an odd phenomenon that I had never seen or heard of before. Have you heard of a "glory", or "the glory of the pilot"? I had seen a less clear version on a previous flight but since I didn't understand it I didn't dwell on it and forgot all about it. But this time...well I still didn't get it, but did look it up.
The sun is behind the airplane casting the shadow of the plane onto the clouds. The sunlight then does "something" in the water droplets around the shadow- refraction or something...and makes a circle or circles of rainbow like colours. Best I could do with the explaination- feel free to look it up though. But cool right?! About half way we had to land at Pickle Lake to re-fuel. We couldn't get out of the plane so there wasn't much to see. Never heard of it before- but in a nutshell its the northern most community in Ontario that can be reached by vehicle on highway. Think its about 550km north of Thunder Bay. So there you go. And they have an airport. And trees. We were above cloud for much of the flight so not much to see until we got down lower approaching the islands upon which Sani is situated.
Then its quite clear that we were coming in from over a very cold looking Hudsons Bay and decending towards a runway straight ahead- which I am glad the pilot saw- 'cause I couldn't see it.
The drive into town from the airport is about 4 minutes. Think a drive accross town will be about the same. The Health Center is brand new which is very nice. I am working nights this rotation- think I will get a LOT of reading time in. Tomorrow I will get some groceries and start some meals for the week- going to come in early to let my partner get to the store- everything closes by 6 and are closed Sundays. How nice. Heres my home for the month. Ta-ta for now :)
